South Australia's unemployment rate is now at a 12 year low with the rate falling to 4.7 per cent after 10,700 jobs were created in the month of July, according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics data.
"South Australia leads the nation for jobs growth, creating 32,800 jobs since the beginning of the year and now has more people in jobs than ever before," said Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni.
"South Australia is now on the verge of effective full employment for the first time in a generation.
"This is great news for South Australians thinking of buying a house, opening a business or looking to get a loan from the bank.
"These figures illustrate why business confidence in South Australia has never been higher, why young people are choosing to stay and why South Australia is once again attracting people from the eastern states.
"The fact that South Australia has created 66,400 jobs since the peak of the COVID-19 shock highlights the success of the Marshall Government's strong economic policies.
"The Marshall Government's record $17.9 billion infrastructure investment and $4 billion COVID-19 stimulus will continue to create new jobs and opportunities for South Australians, cementing our reputation as the world's third most liveable city.
"In the last month South Australia had a record number of people in full-time work, a record number of hours worked, and more people employed than ever before.
"The female unemployment rate of 4.4 per cent is the best it has been in 13 years as more and more women enter into non-traditional jobs.
"The youth unemployment continues to be at its lowest level in a decade and is once again below the national average.
"Little wonder that Roy Morgan's special analysis found that South Australia has "handled the pandemic better than any other state on the employment front".
"South Australia's growing prosperity is underpinned by our exceptionally strong performance in handling both the health and economic threats posed by COVID-19.
"The unemployment rate is now a full two percentage points below what the Labor Government delivered in its final four years.
"It is staggering that the Labor Party criticises South Australia's economic performance when it consistently delivered fewer jobs and higher unemployment despite not wrestling with COVID."
