ABS Seeks Norfolk Islanders for 2026 Census Roles

With the 2026 Census less than four months away, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is hiring local staff to support Norfolk Islanders to participate.

Paul Jones, Census Manager for Norfolk Island, said the ABS is currently looking to fill four Census Field Officer jobs.

"Field Officers will begin work in July. They will be responsible for dropping off and picking up Census forms and providing on ground support to people who need it," Mr Jones said.

"To ensure we collect high-quality Census data that can be used by the Norfolk Island community, it's important everyone participates in the Census.

"That's why we are focused on hiring locals, as they know the Norfolk Island and are best placed to support the community to complete the Census."

The ABS is committed to working with the local community to ensure the Census collects high quality data.

"We are planning another visit to Norfolk Island in May to help staff prepare the community for the Census," Mr Jones said.

Census data informs planning and policy development, and supports decision making across government, businesses, organisations, researchers and by the Norfolk Island community.
