ACT Fire & Rescue welcomes new recruits

Six new firefighters recruited from across Australia have joined ACT Fire & Rescue to help keep the Canberra region safe.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman said the six new recruits had graduated and joined ACT Fire & Rescue this week, further strengthening the diversity within ACT Fire & Rescue.

"Recruit College 40 is a diverse group made up of firefighters from fire and rescue services in Queensland, NSW and the Northern Territory," Minister Gentleman said.

"The firefighters successfully completing an intensive 10 week induction and training program at the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) Training Centre in Hume.

"Recruiting the best and brightest from fire services across the country – known as lateral recruitment - enhances the ACT's service and response capability through the diversity of skills and experience that they bring with them.

"Their distinct and varied skills have been complemented by the induction and training they received to prepare them for a role as a firefighter in the ACT.

"The new recruits will now be appointed to firefighter positions across the service, working alongside members of the ACT Ambulance Service, ACT Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service, and members of the Community Fire Units."

ACT Fire & Rescue Chief Officer Mark Brown said: "The safety of the Canberra community is paramount and we will all largely benefit from the experience the new recruits hold, we welcome them warmly to ACT Fire & Rescue.
