ADA advocacy secures win for dentists regarding inclusion in updated Award

Following six years of negotiation on behalf of dentists by the ADA, late last year the Fair Work Commission (FWC) released its decision and determination in relation to the review of the Health Professionals and Support Services Award which stated that dentists were not listed as an occupation covered under the Award.

However, the FWC did decide that dental hygienists, dental prosthetists, dental therapists and oral health therapist will be included under the updated award.

This means that employers will have to ensure that the employment contracts of any of these roles must, as a minimum, meet all of the requirements of the award from 1 July 2021.

The ADA's HR service is currently reviewing all ADA contracts and fact sheets to ensure employers are equipped to comply with their obligations from this date and any updated information will be published as soon as they are available.

To help members understand and implement these changes, the ADA will also be running a webinar where members will have the opportunity to ask ADA HR any pressing questions.

Questions can be submitted ahead of time by emailing the ADA
