Additional charges laid as part of ongoing investigation, NSW

Detectives have laid additional charges as part of an ongoing investigation into fraudulent loan applications, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Nicolena was established by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad to investigate the activities of organised criminal syndicates in Sydney.

On Wednesday 4 May 2016, a 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with nine counts of fraud.

At the same time, detectives executed a search warrant at the man’s Parramatta home, where they located and seized documents, computers, phones, electronic storage devices, and cocaine.

Following further inquiries, strike force detectives laid 13 additional charges yesterday today, including 11 counts of obtain benefit by deception, supply prohibited drug and knowingly participate in criminal group.

Police will allege the man was part of a criminal syndicate which applied for fraudulent loans for fake companies. In total, the syndicate defrauded the financial lender of more than $420,000.

It will also be alleged the man fraudulently purchased two motor vehicles.

The man is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court today tomorrow.

Four other men – aged 49, 45, 38, and 21 – have previously been charged as part of this investigation. They are due to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Monday 29 August 2016.

Inquiries are continuing.
