The greens at Royal Adelaide Golf Club were white hot when ADF Golf's brightest stars went head-to-head with some of South Australia's best on May 5-6.
ADF Golf were the overall winners, after teams of 12 competed in three matches across the two-day tournament.
ADF were up in the morning but SA fought back in the afternoon, leaving Defence with a slender one-point lead heading into singles on day two.
Defence players extended their lead during the singles play on day two, defeating the SA Invitational team 13.5 to 10.5 overall.
Lieutenant Commander Justin Martin and Craftsman Karel Oosthuizen were named Defence's most valuable players.
Lieutenant Commander Martin won all of his events and Craftsman Oosthuizen won two of three.
Despite getting a clean sweep, Lieutenant Commander Martin said it was far from a pushover, with all three matches needing the full 18 holes to determine a winner.
The South Australian players' handicap ranged from plus two to four, which ensured a tough competition and high quality of play.
'It's just an awesome event and they look after us so well.'
About one per cent of all golfers hold a handicap under four.
"We were playing against some of the best senior amateur players SA had to offer," Lieutenant Commander Martin said.
One of the match highlights came near the end of the tournament for the Navy training officer.
"I was in big trouble off the tee on the 13th hole," Lieutenant Commander Martin said.
"I had a really difficult shot back out on to the fairway and then got up and down from 80 metres to make par while my opponent was on the green for two.
"He then three-putted and lost the hole, which proved a pivotal point in the match."
Craftsman Oosthuizen, of 2nd Cavalry Regiment, played the same tournament last year and said the course was one of the best in Australia.
"It's just an awesome event and they look after us so well," Craftsman Oosthuizen said.
Anyone looking to get involved should register their interest for the ADF Golf Association National Championships held in early December. Selection is based on player rankings.
