ADF serving member arrested over armed robbery

A serving member of the Australian Defence Force has been arrested by police investigating the armed robbery of a financial institution at the Richmond Air Force base in 2014, NSW Police say.

Just after 3.30pm on Friday 7 February 2014, police responded to reports of an armed hold-up at a financial institution on Percival Street, Richmond.

It will be alleged a woman armed with a gun entered the building and threatened a female staff member before fleeing with cash.

The Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Potto to investigate the matter and has been working in partnership with the ADF Investigative Service.

They have conducted extensive inquiries into the incident and last month conducted further forensic examination at the financial institution.

Police will allege two women were involved in the robbery.

Just after 8am today (Thursday 21 April 2016), Strike Force Potto detectives attended the base at Richmond with the assistance of military police and arrested a 21-year-old female member of the ADF.

A search warrant is also being executed at the woman’s home in Sydney’s west.

The woman was taken to Windsor Police Station where it is anticipated she will be charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and firearms offences.

Detectives are now asking for any person with information about the incident, particularly the involvement of a second woman, to come forward
