AFL Grand Final behaviour, TAS

Police have praised the majority of Tasmanians who took part in AFL Grand Final celebrations yesterday for their good behaviour, Tasmania Police say.

Inspector Kathy Bennett said that the vast majority of people who attended did the right thing by others – making sure everyone had a safe time.

"Grand Final Day is traditionally a busy day for police, and additional police resources were deployed across the districts," she said.

Between Saturday afternoon and the early hours of Sunday morning, Tasmania Police responded to around 60 calls for assistance, including noisy parties, concerns for welfare, disturbance and disputes.

Police also detected 19 people for drink driving and drug offences, including 14 Exceeding 0.05. The highest reading was 0.207 by a 26 year old Devonport woman.

"Although there was a steady number of calls for assistance generally the behaviour encountered by police was good," Inspector Bennett said.
