AFL open to discussing a Tasmanian team

Peter Gutwein,Premier

Today along with AFL Taskforce Chair, Brett Godfrey, I had a constructive and positive meeting with AFL Chief Executive, Gillon McLachlan. We explained the business case key findings, which demonstrate the significant benefits a Tasmanian team would deliver our state and also the national competition.

I pointed out very clearly that the State believes the time is right for the AFL to come on board and I am pleased that the AFL has agreed to engage with the Taskforce to seek further clarity on some issues.

This work will begin shortly and we look forward to ongoing discussions as the State continues to press its case to secure the AFL license for a Tasmanian team.
