Aggravated Carjacking at Hobart

A 19 year old man, of no fixed place of abode, is in police custody following a reported Aggravated Carjacking at Rokeby earlier today.

Police allege that the man, whilst a passenger in a taxi, took forcible control of the vehicle by threatening the driver with a knife at about 1.30 pm. The driver left the taxi without injury.

Police observed the vehicle travel upon East Derwent Highway at Lindisfarne, where the driver evaded an attempt to intercept the vehicle. The driver conducted a U-turn and drove at high speed towards Mornington, where he lost control of the vehicle and came to a stop. Police immediately arrested the man and he remains in custody whilst further inquiries are conducted.

Police ask that any witnesses to the man's manner of driving, or who may possess dash-cam footage of a red Toyota Camry sedan bearing a taxi light upon the roof, contact the Bellerive CIB on 61732889.
