Agreements cap productive first week of Asia Trade Mission

The signing of two important Memoranda of Understanding at a Tasmania Showcase event in Shanghai has capped a productive first full week of the Government’s Asia Trade Mission.

We have signed an MoU with Yiguo, China’s largest fresh produce platform, to support trade and pathways to market for Tasmanian exporters.

This is an important step forward for our exporters with the potential to increase pathways into Chinese markets, particularly for our fresh fruit.

A second MoU was signed between the Tasmanian College of English and the Chongqing Education Technology and Research Institute establishing a commitment to a strategic partnership to grow opportunities for academic and education exchange.

On Thursday an MOU was struck between the Department of State Growth and the Putuo District of Education to encourage visits and exchange trips between Tasmania and Putuo supports the Government’s Global Education Growth Strategy,

More than 150 Tasmanian and Chinese guests attended the Tasmania Showcase Event hosted at the Shanghai restaurant of Australian Michelle Garnaut AO.

The Tasmania Showcase was an rare opportunity for our businesses to promote their products and strengthen ties with key players in the Chinese food and beverage sector.

Tasmania’s Spring Vale Wines, launched a new China range at the event, in a striking entrance to this growing market.

The second leg of the Trade Mission continues until 17 September and includes key business meetings in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, including engagements with key buyers and importers of Tasmanian products.

The third and final leg of the mission is being led by Tourism Tasmania between 17 and 20 September, taking in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur to continue the rise of our reputation across Asia as a top destination.
