A new display at Armidale Regional Airport aims to promote awareness of some of the opportunities available for travellers to visit the University of New England (UNE) while they are in Armidale.
The three large scale images depict the historic Booloominbah Homestead, UNE's Natural History Museum and the UNE SMART Farm – three of the attractions on campus.
Robert Heather, Director of Advancement, Communications and Events at UNE said the university is a popular destination for visitors who come to catch-up with friends and relatives on campus; visit the museums, collections and displays and use the facilities for conferences and meetings.
"The Armidale Regional Airport is the gateway to our region through which thousands of people travel every week. We are partnering with Armidale Regional Council to promote our facilities to their audience and create an awareness of the diversity of attractions in our local community, said Mr Heather.
"The tourism industry is an important economic driver and provides employment opportunities for our students and their families in retail, hospitality and other support services."
The historic Booloominbah homestead is a popular stop on Council's free Heritage Bus tour which visits the campus daily.
Armidale Regional Council General Manager Businesses Scot MacDonald said the airport provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase our region's attractions.
"Educational tourism as well as history, heritage and culture are two important pillars of our tourism strategy," said Mr MacDonald.
"We will be working very closely with UNE to promote educational tourism and showcase the Armidale region as a conference destination in 2020. We are looking forward to this collaboration with UNE to develop this market further."
