Business Secretary Peter Kyle confirms Andy King as CIC Regulator.
Andy King has been appointed as Regulator of Community Interest Companies ("CIC Regulator"), the government announced today (5 February).
Andy is currently the Chief Executive of Companies House and Registrar of Companies for England and Wales. He will take on the position of CIC Regulator alongside these roles, replacing Louise Smyth CBE, who has retired.
The Regulator of Community Interest Companies is an office holder established by the Companies (Audit, Investigations and Community Enterprise) Act 2004. A community interest company is a special type of limited company which exists to benefit the community rather than private shareholders. There were more than 37,000 active CICs as of 31 March 2025.
The mission of the CIC Regulator is to ensure effective regulation and provision of information to support the growth of community interest companies in the UK. The Regulator also decides if an organisation is eligible to become, or continue to be, a community interest company. This includes the power to investigate complaints against CICs and to refer them to other enforcement agencies.
