Anglican Diocese decision on church sales welcome

I welcome the decision of the Anglican Diocese to remove approximately 30 percent of originally identified properties from sale.

In my electorate of Prosser, the decision to remove from sale St Albans Church and Burial Ground, where some of the victims of the Port Arthur Massacre are interred, is to be commended.

I also welcome the decisions to retain churches in surrounding communities, including, St Marys Church in Triabunna, St Matthias Church in Woodsdale and the retention of three churches in the Derwent Valley and Central Highlands, particularly St Michael and All Angels in Bothwell, the "Country Cathedral", is also very welcome.

Obviously, not every church will be retained and I will continue to work with affected local communities to achieve the best possible outcome.

I would like to thank the Diocese, and in particular Bishop Richard Condie, for listening to the concerns of local communities.
