Animal cruelty, Brisbane City

Police are appealing for witnesses to a sickening attack on a bird in the Brisbane CBD this morning, Queensland Police say.

It is alleged around 5.30am on George Street a man captured an ibis and strangled the animal until it died.

The man then allegedly approached members of the public as they walked past and threatened them with the deceased bird.

Police attended and spoke to a man at the scene.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or may have footage to contact police.

District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Neville Mills said police take matters of animal cruelty extremely seriously.

"Attacks of this nature will not be tolerated and those responsible will be dealt with to the full extent of the law," he said.
