Annual Maintenance for Burns Point Ferry Starts Aug 18

Burns Point Ferry annual maintenance from Friday 18 August

The Burns Point Ferry will be taken to a dry dock slipyard for maintenance works from Friday 18 August to Saturday 9 September 2023.

The last ferry service will be 12.20am the morning of Friday 18 August and the ferry is scheduled to recommence at 5.30am on Saturday 9 September 2023.

The ferry crossing will be closed to customers during work. Road users are advised to use the alternate route of the Pacific Highway and River Drive, Wardell.

During this period, structural, mechanical, and electrical maintenance repairs will be carried out along with minor safety upgrades. The vessel will also be blasted and repainted.

The slip dates are prearranged to coincide with suitable tides around the Wardell and Woodburn bridges but depend on safe, navigable weather conditions.

The ferry's return to service in Ballina will depend on its progression through the works program and the weather conditions.

If delays to the work program occur and the ferry cannot return to service on Saturday 9 September, Council will notify road users through local media, social media and Council's website.
