Victoria's minerals industry supports the Victorian Government's Advancing Antimony Grants program announced today calling for proposals to establish antimony processing in Victoria.
Victoria has a unique, high-grade gold-antimony province in the north-east including the Costerfield mine near Heathcote, and the Southern Cross Gold Sunday Creek Project near Kilmore.
This gives Victoria - as the only state currently producing antimony - huge potential to supply expanding global markets with a significant quantity of this critical mineral by developing a processing hub.
MCA Victoria has been advocating for research and development of critical minerals pilot processing plants, building on our advocacy for supportive policy settings to grow regional jobs and support local communities.
Victoria has the resources, so needs the right policy settings to get mines up and running.
Bringing geology back into the VCE curriculum and reducing Victoria's punishing royalty rates will help get mines developed, along with reducing mining approval timeframes, better road, rail and port infrastructure and building a pipeline of skills from schools to universities.
