ANZAC Commemorations at home

ANZAC Commemorations at home
We might not be able to come together to commemorate our past and present servicemen and women this year, but we're still paying our respect and invite you to join us.

Anzac commemorations provide us with an opportunity to remember those who have fought and served in all wars; conflicts and peace operations, and to especially remember the more than 100,000 who have given their lives in service.

No place is unaffected by war, the City of Playford is no exception. The story of war encompasses more than those who fought and currently serve, it includes those who remain behind. The women and men whose wives and husbands enlist, the mothers and fathers who wonder at their son's fate, the children who miss out on having their father, mother or family around. War touches many of us and continues to do so today.

No place was unaffected by war with the City of Playford no exception. More than 170 people from the Playford area (which at the time had a population of around 2,500) enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces during World War One with many of these soldiers sadly not returning home.

Leading up to Anzac Day we will share the stories of some of these brave men and women on our Facebook page to acknowledge the sacrifices of our servicemen and women.

The faces of Playford men and women who served in the First World War will feature as part of a light installation onto the Windsor Carpark, on the corner of Main North Road and Phillip Highway to Commemorate Anzac Day.

The projection will take place from Friday, 24 and Saturday, 25 April between 5:30 and 9pm.

While on your commute to purchase groceries or attend work, pay your respect as you are passing by.

Join us, and the rest of Australia, on Anzac Day at the end of your driveway, balcony or farmgate at 6am for a minute of silence to pay your respects. Light a candle, lay a wreath or listen to the 'Last Post' (if you can) and remember our past and present servicemen and women. Lest we forget.
