Anzac Day police operation continues, NSW

A state-wide police operation is continuing into the evening to ensure Anzac Day continues to be commemorated safely, NSW Police say.

Operation Blueridge, a high-visibility policing strategy, has been operating since 1am today, to provide a safe and secure environment for all Anzac Day events.

An estimated 11,000 people attended the Dawn Service in Sydney with 12,000 people participating in the march, which this year went along Elizabeth Street from Martin Place to the War Memorial in Hyde Park.

The high-visibility operation is continuing with the CBD with police tasked to patrol licensed premises and city precincts.

So far, police have been pleased with the behaviour of the crowds in the city; however, any anti-social or alcohol-related violent behaviour will be dealt with swiftly. At this time, no major incidents have been reported.

Today’s operation involves officers from local area commands across the state, assisted by specialist units, including the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Police Transport Command, Public Order & Riot Squad, Operations Support Group, Licensing Police, Mounted Unit, Dog Unit and PolAir.
