Appeal after child approached at Wollongong

Police are appealing for information following a reported child approach in the state's Illawarra.

About 3.30pm on Monday (20 March 2023), a 16-year-old girl was walking along Thompson Street, Woonona, when police have been told she was flagged down by an unknown man, who allegedly exposed himself to her.

The girl ran home, and the incident was reported to officers from Wollongong Police District who have commenced an investigation.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak with the man who may be able to assist them.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, in his late 40s, with a thin build, black hair and a tattoo on his upper left arm.

The man was driving a blue single cab utility with a silver tray.

Police are urging anyone with information or who has dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident, to come forward and contact Wollongong Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
