Appeal after girl indecently assaulted in Burwood

Police are appealing for public assistance after a girl was indecently assaulted on a train in Sydney yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 8.30am today, the 17-year-old was on board a crowded train which was travelling between Strathfield and Ashfield Railway Stations when a man standing next to her put his hand up her skirt and indecently assaulted her.

The girl moved to another carriage and the matter was reported to police after she got off the train.

The man has been described as Indian/Sub-Continental appearance, about 30 years old, 180cm tall, with an average build, short black hair, clean shaven, wearing a black top which was possibly a turtle neck, and wearing black sunglasses.

Police from Burwood Local Area Command are investigating the incident and are searching for CCTV of the male, as well as appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

It is unknown at this stage what railway stations the man boarded or disembarked the train at.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
