Appeal after man performed public sexual act - Balmain

Police are appealing for information after reports a man allegedly performed an indecent act outside a childcare centre in Sydney's inner west earlier this month.

Just before 1.15pm on Tuesday 17 August 2021, a member of the public observed an unknown man performing a sexual act outside a childcare centre on Thames Street at Balmain.

When the member of the public approached the man and called police, he left the scene.

Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command attended and conducted extensive patrols of the area; however, the man could not be located.

An investigation was subsequently launched into the incident, and as inquiries continue, police have released images of a man who may be able to assist with ongoing investigations.

The man depicted in the images is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 185cm tall, aged in his 40s or 50s, of medium build, with brown, thinning hair.

He is depicted wearing a dark jacket, blue denim jeans and sneakers.

Anyone who may be able to identify the man, or witnessed the incident, are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
