Appeal for assistance in Belmore

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a man following an incident at Belmore yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 12.45pm (Friday 2 November 2018), a man entered a place of worship on Burwood Road at Belmore and threatened those inside with a golf club.

The man allegedly yelled obscenities at the congregation before he was escorted from the building.

Police were alerted and officers from Campsie Police Area Command attended and commenced inquiries.

Investigators are appealing for public assistance to locate the man, who was last seen walking east on Burwood Road, Belmore, towards Belfield.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 30-40, with an athletic build, and short blonde hair.

He was last seen wearing a purple collared dress shirt, khaki coloured dress shorts, white shoes with black trim. He has tattoos on his left inner forearm, and the side of his neck.

Campsie Police Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Paul Albury, said police are extremely concerned about the nature of the incident.

"To enter a place of worship and threaten the congregation is very concerning and disturbing to us," Det Insp Albury said.

"We are urging anyone who may recognise the man, or know his whereabouts, to contact us immediately."

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
