Detectives are investigating a suspected attempted robbery and assault which occurred in Townsville today, Queensland Police say.
Information was received by police that at about midday at a major shopping centre on Ross River Road, Aitkenvale, a group of youths attempted to steal an elderly lady’s keys and personal property.
During the incident the woman was knocked to the ground and assaulted.
The woman left the scene prior to police arrival.
Two juveniles are currently assisting police with their inquiries.
Police are appealing to the woman who was assaulted or anyone who knows her identity to contact police.
Investigations are continuing.
