Appeal for info after assault, bag snatch in Wollongong

Police are appealing for information to identify a woman believed responsible for an assault and bag snatch in Mangerton this afternoon, NSW Police say.

Officers from Wollongong Police District have been told a 44-year-old woman was walking along Mangerton Road about 5.20pm (Monday 23 April 2018), when she was assaulted and had her handbag stolen by another woman.

Witnesses alerted police who initiated an investigation.

The handbag and some of its contents have been recovered, but certain personal items remain missing.

The woman sustained minor injuries including scratches to her face and hand as a result of the assault.

Police have released a description of a woman they believe can assist with their investigation.

She is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance with a medium build and dark hair worn in a ponytail. At the time she was wearing a pink long-sleeved shirt and grey track pants.

Anyone with information about the incident, or who believes they may know the identity of the woman involved, is urged to contact Wollongong Police or Crime Stoppers.
