Appeal for info after body of man located in Charlestown

Police are appealing for information after a body of a man was discovered in bushland at Charlestown, NSW Police say.

About 1.15pm (Tuesday 17 July 2018) emergency services were called to bushland off Charlestown Road, Charlestown, after reports of a body was found near a tree.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District established a crime scene and commenced investigations.

The body has not been identified and the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 50s, approximately 162cm tall. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black hoodie, tight black skinny jeans, and skate shoes.

It is believed the man was homeless and frequented the Warners Bay, Charlestown, Cardiff and Kotara South areas.

He was usually seen drinking a coffee, carrying plastic shopping bags, and often seen wearing plastic bags on the inside of his shoes.

Police are appealing for anyone who may know the identity of this man, or who has information that may assist, to contact Crime Stoppers.
