Appeal for info after carjacking and assault in Auburn

Police are appealing for information after a carjacking and assault at Auburn last night, NSW Police say.

About 10.20pm yesterday, a 32-year-old man was approached by two men while parking a car in a parking lot on the corner of Rawson Street and St Hilliers Road.

Police have been told the men claimed to be repossessing the vehicle and demanded the 32-year-old hand over the keys.

He refused and the men pulled him from the car.

A short time later, a tow truck arrived and towed the car from the location.

While the car was being towed, police have been told the 32-year-old man filmed the incident on his mobile phone when one of the men punched him and smashed his phone.

Officers from Flemington Local Area Command attended the scene and conducted a canvass of the surrounding area.

No one was located.

Detectives would like to speak to two men who may be able to assist them with inquiries.

They are described only as being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward, in particular, the tow truck driver who attended the scene.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
