Appeal for witnesses following robbery and assault in Blacktown

Police are appealing for public assistance after a woman was assaulted and robbed in Blacktown today, NSW Police say.

About 3.45pm (Wednesday 27 December 2017), police have been told a 74-year-old woman was putting her shopping away in a shopping centre car park in Patrick Street.

A man approached and tried to steal her handbag but the woman grabbed onto it. He assaulted her before stealing the bag.

The woman suffered injuries to her arm and hand but refused medical treatment at the scene.

Police from Blacktown Local Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Officers wish to speak with a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his early 20s, 175cm tall and wearing a light-coloured shirt.

Anyone with information or witnessed the robbery is urged to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
