Appeal to identify man pulled from water at Maroubra

Police are appealing for assistance to identify a man who remains in a critical condition after being pulled from the water at Maroubra today.

Just after 11.30am (Sunday 27 August 2023), emergency services were called to Marine Parade at Maroubra following reports a man was in difficulty in the water.

Police have been told the man was swept into the water while rock fishing.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended, along with surf lifesavers and a rescue helicopter, and located the man unconscious in the water.

The man, believed to be aged in his 50s or 60s, was pulled from the water and treated at the scene before being taken to St George Hospital.

He remains in a critical condition.

As inquiries continue, police are attempting to identify the man and locate his next of kin.

The man is described as being of Asian appearance, approximately 160cm to 170cm tall, slim build, olive complexion, and black/grey hair.

He was wearing long black pants, white long-sleeved button shirt with a grey cardigan, along with a black vest and white speckled boots.

The man had a blue Nike backpack and fishing gear with him.
