Applications open for small business accredited training course

Bega Valley small business owners are encouraged to apply for a free, accredited training course to help their business thrive and grow.

The Business Council of Australia's BizRebuild and Bega Valley Shire Council have 20 placements available for small business owners looking to progress their business or individuals interested in starting a business.

Delivered by experienced, qualified trainers and assessors through the (University of Wollongong) UOW College Australia, Round 1 of Planning for Business Success will begin on 21 April.

"Small business owners often find themselves working in their business, rather than on their business," Council's Economic Strategy and Projects Manager, Alex Cunningham said.

"This training aims to help small business owners use the time they have to create a bespoke business plan, one of the most valuable tools in reaching their long-term goals.

"A business plan gives your business direction, defines your objectives and maps out strategies to achieve your goals."

BizRebuild Chair Sir Peter Cosgrove said helping businesses rebuild was a crucial part of keeping communities going.

"Business is the glue that keeps communities together. Whether it is bushfires or the pandemic, we need strong businesses to pull through and keep communities together," Sir Peter Cosgrove said.

Working through five modules over five weeks, Planning for Business Success, Vocational Education and Training (VET) accredited training, will help business owners and start-ups put together a defined and complete business plan.

The course will be delivered to fit into the busy work schedule of a business owner; through virtual group workshops, self-paced micro-learning activities, one-on-one sessions, assessment tasks and assessor feedback.

The five modules are:

  • Research and Analysis
  • Legal, Compliance and Operations
  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Business Plan and the Future.

At the end of the course, participants will have the information they need to create a unique business plan.

Upon successful assessment, participants will receive a certificate with statement of attainment.

Planning for Business Success participants will have up to six months to complete assessments tasks and submit a business plan for assessment.

Applications for Round 1 close on 14 April; places are limited.

Round 2 training starts on 26 May. Applications for Round 2 close 19 May.
