Applications open to help train more apprentices and trainees

The Hodgman Liberal Government is supporting more Tasmanians into work to build the workforce our growing economy needs.

Accordingly, applications are now open for the next round of the Hodgman Government’s User Choice Program, with $20 million available to subside the cost for training apprentices and trainees.

Tasmania is a better place to live than ever before, and programs like this are helping us achieve our long term plan to improve the lives of every Tasmanian.

Our building and construction sector is booming, with high demand for skilled workers and we are committed to matching the right people with the right skills to fill jobs both now and into the future.

Our ongoing efforts are making a difference with the latest data showing apprentice and trainee construction workers in-training in Tasmania had increased by 11.6 per cent to 1,930 over the year to March, more than two and a half times the national average.

Construction worker commencements have also increased in Tasmania by 24.4 per cent compared to 9.8 per cent nationally, and completions increased by 4.3 per cent compared to 3.1 per cent nationally.

Tasmania also has the highest overall apprentice and trainee contract completion rate in the country at more than 58 per cent.

We will continue to work closely with business and industry to support the sector which is building the infrastructure we need while stimulating growth and getting Tasmanians into real jobs for the longer term.
