An investigation is underway after pursuits, car fire and attempted carjackings in the states Northern Tablelands.
About 1.35pm yesterday (Thursday 25 September 2025), officers attached to New England Traffic and Highway Patrol allegedly observed an unregistered sedan travelling southbound on the New England Highway, at the bottom of Black Mountain.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle on McCanna Road, Armidale, where the vehicle failed to do so, and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated near Puddledock Road, due to safety concerns.
About 4.30pm (Thursday 25 September 2025), police were notified after the vehicle entered a property on Arding Road, Arding, and became bogged.
A man, armed with a knife, exited the vehicle, before the man approached two bystanders who retreated and drove away.
The man attempted to carjack two passing vehicles, before entering a nearby property on Hawthorne Drive, where he stole a Subaru Outback.
On arrival, the vehicle accelerated and rammed through a gate.
A pursuit was initiated travelling north on the New England Highway, where it was terminated due to safety concerns on Arding Road.
During this time, the vehicle became a light, and the Rural Fire Service later attended and extinguished the blaze.
A crime scene was established, and the vehicle was forensically examined.
An investigation continues.
