Ariarne shines in Gwangju

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Sport and Recreation

Ariarne Titmus' win in the 400 metre freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in South Korea overnight is one of the great Tasmanian sporting achievements in recent times.

To take on and beat possibly the greatest female swimmer of all time in American Katie Ledecky is an unbelievable triumph for Ariarne and hopefully a sign of things to come in the lead up to next year's Tokyo Olympics

The world is now realising what Tasmanian supporters have known for some time, that Titmus is not only an unbelievable athlete but also one of the toughest competitors to come from Tasmania.

To Ariarne, her family and all of her support team we say congratulations and we can't wait to see her repeat the effort in the 800 metre later this week.
