Armed Robbery Charge – Belgian Gardens

Police have charged a man following the alleged armed robbery of a pharmacy in Belgian Gardens, Townsville this morning, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged at around 9.40am the man entered the store armed with a knife and threatened a staff member while making demands for drugs. The staff member complied with demands and the man then attempted to leave the store.

It’s further alleged two members of the public had witnessed the robbery in progress and held the door of the pharmacy shut preventing the man from leaving the store.

Police had been alerted to the robbery in progress and arrived on scene as the man was attempting to leave the store. The man then complied with police directions and was arrested.

A 41-year-old North Ward man was charged with one count each of armed robbery, entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, wilful damage and common assault.

He is due appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
