Armed robbery charges in Corinda, QLD

A man has been charged following a number of incidents that occurred in the Brisbane and Ipswich districts yesterday afternoon, Queensland Police say.

Police were called at 4.15pm following reports that a man had had his car stolen in Corinda.

It will be alleged that a man approached the car on Nelson Street and the driver was threatened with a knife as the man made demands for him to get out of the car.

It will be further alleged that as the man was being forced out of the vehicle, he sustained a minor cut from the knife before the car was stolen by the first man.

The car was last seen driving on Oxley Road heading towards Darra and the 60-year-old driver of the car didn’t receive any treatment for his injury.

As officers were responding to this incident, reports came in that a man attempted to enter a vehicle in the car park of a nearby shopping centre on Clewley Street.

The driver of the car managed to close the door and the man then fled the area.

No one was injured as a result of this incident.

Police from the Brisbane and Ipswich districts have conducted extensive patrols and, with the assistance of POLAIR 2, they located the allegedly stolen vehicle after it was involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of Gordon and Limestone Streets in Ipswich.

It will be further alleged that the man fled the scene on foot, but POLAIR 2 was able to direct crews from the air and a man was taken into custody by police just before 5pm.

A 25-year-old New South Wales man has been charged with one count each of armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, attempted robbery and failure to take care in respect to a syringe.

He is due to appear in the Richlands Magistrates Court on April 26.
