Armed robbery with device – Fortitude Valley

A 50-year-old Fortitude Valley man is assisting police with inquiries following an incident at a service station earlier this morning, Queensland Police say.

At around 1.20am, a man walked onto the grounds of the Barry Parade business and placed a suspicious looking device next to a petrol pump.

He then walked inside and threatened the attendant to give him money from the cash register.

The male attendant complied and it is believed the man then left in a taxi with the money and goods from the premises.

Officers located the man near the corner of Brookes Street and St Paul’s Terrace and he was taken into custody.

The Explosive Ordinance Response Team (EORT) inspected the device and declared it non-suspicious just before 5am.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
