Army Rugby Juggernaut Unstoppable

Department of Defence

Army has achieved a clean sweep at the annual ADF Rugby Union Championships, triumphing in every match in the men's and women's competitions.

The tournament started as a curtain-raiser to the ACT Brumbies versus Wellington Hurricanes Super Rugby Pacific clash at GIO Stadium in Canberra, during the Anzac round.

Under ideal conditions for the opening fixtures, the Army men's team faced the Air Force, who broke Army's winning streak last year.

Driven by a desire for redemption, Army displayed commanding play, securing a decisive 53-15 victory.

The Army men's team went on to defeat Navy 29-8, securing the series.

Meanwhile, the Army women's team proved an unstoppable force, amassing a remarkable 113 points across their two games, while conceding a mere 17.

The Army women beat Navy 81-10 and Air Force 32-7, completing their clean sweep.

Their consistent high level of performance, characterised by a powerful forward pack and a fast backline, rendered them unbeatable.

"The girls have really worked hard for each other this camp, seeing them play for each other has made my job as co-captain very easy," Corporal Terri Ellis said.

"I am in my eighth and final year playing Army rugby. Getting to lead the team as co-captain with Sergeant Yolanda Forsyth and leaving after we have been so dominant is a career highlight."

Sergeant Forsyth said she was really looking forward to next year's tournament to do it all again.

During the competition, the ADF coaching team took the opportunity to scout talent from all the services' games.

Corporal Ellis and Sergeant Forsyth hope to be selected for the ADF women's side, taking on more challenges and aspiring to represent their nation at a higher level.
