Arrest Made After Early Morning Copper Theft

A man has been arrested after allegedly stealing copper cabling at Morphett Vale overnight.

At about 3am on Saturday 11 April, police were called to Wheatsheaf Road following reports of two men interfering with a telecommunications pit.

Patrols located a Toyota SUV parked on nearby Sports Park Drive with a large quantity of copper cabling on the ground beside it. The suspects had left the scene, however, one of the alleged offenders later returned and was arrested.

The 41‑year‑old man from Christies Beach was charged with theft and going equipped after police seized various power tools from inside the vehicle. He was granted police bail to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 21 May.

Crime scene investigators will attend the scene later today as investigations continue to identify and locate the second suspect.
