Arrest made over 2013 Tahmoor murder, NSW

Police investigating the bashing death of a Tahmoor man in 2013 have arrested a man during police raids at Heckenberg today.

The body of Scott Hammond, aged 48, was discovered about 5.30pm on Monday 1 July 2013 after emergency services were called to his house on Ibbotson Street.

The alarm was raised after an acquaintance of Scott’s became concerned for his welfare and contacted police, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Hewitt, comprising detectives from Camden Police Area Command was formed to investigate the events surrounding Scott’s death.

Post mortem examination results showed Scott died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

A man was arrested during an operation at Heckenberg conducted by strike force investigators this morning.

The Heckenberg resident was taken to Narellan Police Station where inquiries are continuing.

Camden Police Area Commander Detective Superintendent Ward Hanson said today’s result was a tribute to the hard work and tenacity of the investigative team.

"Many of the investigative team on the strike force have been on this case since day one," Detective Superintendent Hanson said.

"Today’s result came about through persistence, old fashioned policing and tugging on coats.

"At the time of Scott’s death his mother Josie said his family hoped there will eventually be a close to an incredibly sad chapter in their family history.

"Unfortunately , Josie passed before this day could arrive."
