Arrests after two police cars rammed at Smithfield, SA

A man has been arrested and two police officers have been taken to hospital after two police cars were allegedly rammed at Smithfield earlier tonight, according to SA Police.

Just before 9pm on Friday 13 July, Northern District police patrols were called to Moulds Crescent following reports of a suspicious black Statesman driving in the street with no number plates attached the vehicle.

On patrol arrival, they spotted the suspect car, which on seeing the patrol attempted to execute a three-point turn. The police car activated it's emergency lights and attempted to stop the black Statesman by the driver allegedly rammed the front passenger's side of the police car.

Another police patrol arrived at the same time and also tried to stop the black Statesman, but it was rammed on the driver's side of the police vehicle.

The male driver of the Statesman attempt to run from the patrols, but he was quickly restrained and arrested.

A 44-year-old man from Blakeview and a passenger in the Statesman, a 25-year-old woman from Hillcrest have both been arrested.

They are currently being interviewed over the incident with several charges expected.

Two police officers from the second police car that was rammed were taken to the Wakefield Hospital with minor injuries.
