Arrests following armed robberies in Caroline Springs and Sydenham

Police have arrested two teenagers following two armed robberies in Caroline Springs and Sydenham last night (23 August), Victoria Police say.

The first incident occurred at a restaurant on Lake Street in Caroline Springs about 9.50pm.

Three males, perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, allegedly entered the premises armed with metal bars and a meat cleaver.

A number of items were smashed and they allegedly attempted to steal the cash register but left empty-handed in a vehicle.

The second incident took place at a bottle shop on Hume Drive in Sydenham about 10pm.

Three males with bandanas covering their faces entered the store, allegedly armed with a meat cleaver.

A staff member picked up a baseball bat and the offenders fled empty-handed in a vehicle. No one was physically injured during the incidents.

A 16-year-old Sydenham boy and an 18-year-old Melton South man were arrested at a Taylors Hill address this morning.

Both are currently in custody, assisting police with their enquiries.

Police have also recovered a vehicle, a Honda sedan, believed to be used during the two incidents.

The investigation remains ongoing and police are still searching for the remaining offenders.
