The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested five male youths in relation to an aggravated burglary that occurred in Alice Springs overnight.
Around 8:30pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that a group of up to six male youths had unlawfully entered a residence in Grey Court, Braitling by forcing their way through the front door. The residence was occupied by a male aged in his 80s and his wife aged her in 70s.
One of the youths was allegedly armed with a stick and assaulted the male victim, striking him to his shoulder. Another youth was allegedly armed with a screwdriver and threatened both victims, demanding they hand over car keys, before the group fled the scene on foot.
No items were reported stolen, and the male victim received treatment from St John Ambulance for minor injuries.
Multiple police units responded and, with assistance from the police drone, five male youths aged 11, 12, 12, 12 and 15 were located and arrested. A sixth male youth, aged 10, was also apprehended and subsequently conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital for assessment after suffering leg injuries when fleeing from police.
