Arrests over sports memorabilia thefts, SA

Two people have been arrested and police investigations are continuing into the theft of a substantial quantity of sports memorabilia, art and copper cabling, according to SA Police.

At 12.45pm on Tuesday 31 January, police attended a warehouse on Port Wakefield Road at Cavan after being informed the premises had been broken into and a significant amount of property had been stolen from the premises.

As a result of an investigation conducted by Elizabeth CIB, police attended a premises Taperoo and during a search of the house recovered significant evidence in relation to the thefts, including 65 items of art and sports memorabilia.

A 46-year-old man from Ottoway and a 51-year-old woman from Taperoo were arrested and charged with serious criminal trespass and theft. They were bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 18 March 2017.

The police investigation is continuing into the whereabouts of the thousands of dollars' worth of outstanding sporting memorabilia and artwork.

Items not yet recovered include a First fleet Landing painting, three framed Don Bradman signed cricket bats, four Clipsal race car front guards signed by Craig Lowndes, Mark Skaife and Wayne Gardener, Crows number plates bearing registration CROWSBB, Chinese jade vases and a mosaic horse, Formula 1 baseball cap signed by Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell and Michael Schumacher and a set of Olympic lapel pins (photographs not yet available).
