Arson charges, Gold Coast

Detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit have charged a boy over alleged fires which caused damage to two schools last week, Queensland Police say.

Around 7.20pm on Wednesday, officers responded to reports of a fire inside a classroom at a school on Oceanic Drive, Mermaid Waters.

On Friday, around 9.15pm, emergency services were called to a Fairway Drive school at Clear Island Waters to reports of a small fire in a classroom.

A 17-year-old Clear Island Waters boy has been charged with two counts of arson, three counts of wilful damage, one count of possess drug utensil and 10 counts of improper use of emergency call service.

He will be dealt with under the provision of the Youth Justice Act.

The schools sustained smoke and water as a result of the fire which was quickly extinguished.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.
