Arson investigators appeal for info into suspicious fire at Parramatta school, NSW

Detectives investigating a suspicious fire at a Western Sydney school last month have released CCTV as they continue to appeal for information from the community, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to a school on Macquarie Street about 4.45am on Saturday 19 May 2018, where they found a building on the grounds well-alight.

The blaze was extinguished by Fire & Rescue NSW fire fighters, and while the building was not in use and no one was injured, it was significantly damaged.

The estimated costs to repair the building is more than $10 million.

Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command attended the scene and initial inquiries indicated the fire may have been deliberately lit.

Detectives from the Financial Crimes Squad’s Arson Unit established Strike Force Zingara to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

As part of their ongoing inquiries, strike force investigators have released CCTV of three females who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The vision depicts the group walking along Charles Street near the school around the time it is believed the fire was started.

Anyone who recognises the people, or has information about the fire, is urged to contact investigators.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Zingara investigators to call Crime Stoppers.
