The Art Gallery of Swan Hill will welcome two new exhibitions this October, with artists Josephine Duffy and Tom Henty opening their exhibitions Seed and Running Away with it on Friday 9 October.
The exhibitions will officially open from 6pm to 8pm on Friday 9 October, offering visitors the opportunity to meet the artists and hear opening remarks from Dr Ruth Barcan for Seed and Art Gallery Director Ian Tully for Running Away with it.
Both exhibitions will be on display from Saturday 10 October to Sunday 29 November.
In Seed, Josephine Duffy explores the relationship between material, landscape and care through large-scale drawings and installations of dry point etchings.
The exhibition draws on Duffy's experience collecting and archiving native seed, exploring ideas of time, place, labour and the often-overlooked natural world. Her process reflects the physical discipline of printmaking, revealing recurring patterns, textures and rhythms throughout her work.
Running Away with it by Tom Henty takes a different look at the materials that surround us, transforming post-consumer packaging, containers, boxes, cans and print catalogues into sculptures, collages and prints.
Henty's work considers the speed at which everyday objects move from carefully designed products to waste, raising questions about value, responsibility, convenience and our relationship with the material world.
Art Gallery Director Ian Tully said the two exhibitions offered visitors an opportunity to consider familiar materials and landscapes in new ways.
"Both exhibitions invite us to slow down and look more closely at the things that surround us - from the natural world and the seeds we collect, to the everyday objects and materials we so quickly discard.
"Josephine and Tom have created thoughtful and visually engaging bodies of work that encourage us to consider ideas of care, value, time and our relationship with place."
Visitors are also invited to join the artists and Ian Tully for a walk through the exhibitions at 10.30am on Saturday 10 October.
