Townsville City Council is calling all street artists to add a splash of colour to the city centre by nominating to have their work form part of Townsville's Street Art Trail.
The popular trail runs through Townsville's CBD and includes works by world-renowned artists and local talents such as ROA, HA HA, Fintan Magee and the RUN Collective.
Now Council wants to commission more local artists to work to make the city centre even more inviting for locals and visitors.
Community and Cultural Development chairperson, Councillor Colleen Doyle, said there was a selection of new street art sites available this year.
"Now that we have room to expand our Street Art Trail, we're looking for a diverse range of street artists from Townsville to apply to work on several of these new sites," Cr Doyle said.
"Artists who apply will have their details recorded on our Street Art Registry, which is also used by external organisations that are wanting to commission street artists or muralists."
Cr Doyle said that the selected artists would be paid for their work.
"This is a paid opportunity to make your mark on Townsville's Street Art Trail. It's also a great opportunity for professional development and to be a part of the city's arts and culture on a large scale," she said.
"Council already has 24 commissioned street art works permanently displayed in the CBD and fringe suburbs, but we're very excited to add to this with the work of our local artists.
"We want artists from all cultural backgrounds to apply, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists."
