As mental health suffers during pandemic, local not-for-profit offers online meditation classes to help

Kadampa Meditation Centre Australia

Olinda, VIC – 24 May 2020: At a time when many people are feeling lonely and isolated, Kadampa Meditation Centre Australia is offering all Victorians access to inner peace through online meditation classes.

On a typical weeknight, its classes are packed with more than 100 people seeking inner peace during lockdown. There's a live-streamed event almost every day of the week.

The organisation has a new temporary website, www.kadampa.live, for their online classes.

"I am sure that without these online teachings I would not be coping as well as I am at this time," says Rosebud Secondary College teacher Brooke Picot.

"It gives me something to look forward to everyday, which helps a lot during this self-isolation period," says Point Cook resident Danica Djaja.

Resident Teacher and Buddhist monk Gen Kelsang Dornying says that hundreds of people have attended classes since they went online, with many new to meditation.

"It's been wonderful to be able to bring comfort and happiness to people in these unusual and challenging times."

Classes range from $5 for 30 minutes to $40 for a half-day workshop. Purchasing a class entitles you to replay it, on-demand, up to three times within a week.

There's also a free lunchtime meditation class on Tuesdays.
