Assault and robbery charges in Woree, QLD

Detectives investigating the alleged assault and robbery of a man and woman in Woree earlier this week have charged five people over the incident, Queensland Police say.

Around 11.45pm on Monday, the pair were walking along the Bruce Highway after leaving a nearby licensed premises when they were approached by a group in a Ford Territory.

A number of armed males then exited the vehicle and chased the man. He was not injured in the incident.

The woman was also chased and dragged to the ground before being sexually assault by one of the males.

The group then stole the woman’s handbag and fled in the vehicle.

Police stopped the vehicle a short time later nearby and arrested the occupants without incident.

As a result, two men aged 18 and 19, have been charged with one count each of robbery and attempted robbery. The 18-year-old Earlville man is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow while the 19-year-old Bentley Park man will front court on May 5.

Three boys, two aged 16 and the other 17, will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
