Assault police charges in Surfers Paradise, QLD

Police have charged two men following an incident during which three police officers were allegedly assaulted in Surfers Paradise this morning, Queensland Police say.

Around 4.20am police responded to a fight involving a group of people at the Cavill Mall.

It will be alleged as police arrested one of the men, a second man struck a male constable in the shoulder.

Then it will be further alleged the man then turned on a second male constable hitting the officers in the chest, arms and shoulders.

It will be alleged the man attempted to assault other officers, causing the officers to use OC spray.

The two men were taken into custody without further incident.

A 41-year-old Pimpama man has been charged with one count each of commit public nuisance and contravening a DV order.

He is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on January 13, 2017.

A 29-year-old Robina man has been charged with four counts of assault police and is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on January 10, 2017.

All three police officers did not require medical treatment.
